At a market my wife pointed out a sign at one of the craft stalls: I know your husband can make it for less, but when? That’s me. I want to do everything myself, because it’s less expensive.
It so happens that we had to add a study and again I wanted to do it myself. I asked the brickie working across the road what his price per day was for building a wall. Instantly he informed me with a confident smile that he could also plaster and put in ceilings. Actually, he could do everything, even electricity, but he did not have any qualifications. I wasn’t bothered until my wife lightly reminded me of the small problem that had occurred during my previous building project. I had extended the bathroom and there it still stood today unbeknownst to the Municipality, on the wrong side of the building line. บริษัทรับสร้างบ้าน
Immediately I decided to ask my builder friend, James, to take on the project, because he knows about putting the foundations in the right place and building strong walls. He had the qualifications and would ensure that everything goes well. Even the Municipal approval.
Once again I was surprised by the broad trenches they dig for the foundations. So very broad and deep. But I can make my own calculations about the weight that would have to rest on them. If the foundations aren’t stable, the rest of the building will fall down.
When Paul talks to the people of Corinth about being Christians and a congregation he uses the foundations of a house as an example. 11Let each carpenter who comes on the job take care to build on the foundation! Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ.
Quickly, and without realizing it, we build our houses on the wrong foundation. Success, wealth, prestige and many more. But when our houses are threatened by storm winds, big cracks quickly appear. The foundations aren’t strong enough and our houses cannot remain standing against the enormous power. As soon as misfortune hits the houses, a sign is put on the walls: Not suitable for habitation.
Jesus must be the foundation of our lives. We shouldn’t chase after fame, money or happiness. No, Jesus must be at the centre of our lives. When we want to do something or even say something, we must ask ourselves if it is about Jesus or about myself. Ensure that Jesus is always the point of departure.
This is actually a command, because the building inspector will come to inspect the work from time to time: 12Take particular care in picking out your building materials. 13Eventually there is going to be an inspection. If you use cheap or inferior materials, you’ll be found out. The inspection will be thorough and rigorous. You won’t get by with a thing.
Man, this is hard. I wonder what the Inspector would have to say about my house? If I look at the things on which I spend my time and which I pursue, the material is not really suitable to build a beautiful and strong spiritual house.
